The CEREC Same-Day Crown Procedure | NYC Dentists
Exam and Preparation
Dr. Gulizio and Dr. Cordoves will examine your tooth and determine the appropriate type of ceramic to be used to restore your tooth to proper function. A local anesthetic is administered and your tooth is prepared for a restoration, removing decayed and weakened tooth structure.Optical Impression
An optical impression of the prepared tooth is made. Instead of filling a tray with impression "goop" that you must bite into and hold in your mouth until it hardens, Dr. Gulizio and Dr. Cordoves will coat your tooth with a non-toxic, tasteless powder. A special, high-definition camera is then used to take a digital image of your tooth. This optical impression process only takes a minute or two.No Temporaries
The CEREC 3D software is used to create the ceramic restoration for your tooth. The digital picture is converted into a 3-dimensional virtual model on the computer screen. Dr. Gulizio and Dr. Cordoves will design your restoration virtually--in most cases, the design is so accurate that little to no adjustment should be needed once the restoration is complete.
The virtual tooth is then sent to a milling unit located within the office. A ceramic block that matches your tooth shade is placed in the milling unit and approximately 10 - 20 minutes later, your all-ceramic, tooth-colored restoration is finished and ready to bond in place.
The restoration is tried in to ensure proper fit and to make sure your bite is correct. The ceramic is then polished and bonded to the prepared tooth. Your tooth is restored with no "temporary" or return trip necessary. All of this is done in a single appointment!
